Case Study - Community College of Allegheny County

Background
In 2002, CCAC had a large, sparsely organized web site that was being maintained by the entire campus community.  This consisted of nearly 20,000 pages of content.  This resulted in a Web site that had several distinct designs that did not maintain consistency, and had much redundancy throughout.

Challenge
Zach Hraber and the company he worked for were challenged to implement a content management solution to retain control over the Web site update process, maintain a consistent look and feel throughout the site, while keeping the control of the content in the hands of the users who knew it best.

Strategic Solution
A customizable content management system (CMS) was developed to fit the needs of the campus community.  In addition, a new design was created separately and implemented, as well as an overhaul of the entire site and information architecture.

Results
The Web site and CMS was launched in early 2003.  The Web site contains around 4,000 pages of content.  With the new look and feel and the addition of several key functional applications, the Web site has garnered numerous awards.  In addition, the CMS is still in use today by over 200 users.  To date, they have made over 2,500 updates to the site through the CMS.

From an ROI perspective, enrollment increased by 8% the following year.

Currently, ZAP Development and Zach Hraber have been contracted to perform maintenance, support, and new development for CCAC’s .NET web site, CMS and web applications.  They currently use SQL Server as their database solution.
